Your records in this browser belong to this address and do not move by themselves. To take them with you:
Save a backup file here.
Open the new address.
There, choose Restore a saved backup file, choose that file and enter your password.
If you use server backup, you can instead choose Open my account from server backup at the new address, with your Account access file and your password. Server backups are no longer accepted from this address; everything saved in this browser stays here until you remove it yourself.
Three short steps, in any order you like. You can hide this list and open it again from Help.
Add an account
Add the account your money comes from. Give it a nickname such as Household Checking or Emergency Savings. You do not need to enter a bank account number.
Adding an account here only keeps track of it. Finance Commander does not connect to your bank, and the balance is the one you type.
The empty "Savings Reserve" account under Accounts was set up automatically for the budgeting tools. It is not counted here: add the account your money actually comes from.
Add a bill or record a purchase
Bills are payments you plan for, commonly repeated payments such as rent, electricity or subscriptions. Other expenses are individual purchases such as groceries, fuel or a meal.
When you mark an ordinary bill as paid, Finance Commander records its linked expense automatically. Do not enter that payment again as a separate expense. Credit-card and loan payments have separate handling to avoid counting purchases twice.
Understand and check your backup
Your records are saved in this browser on this device. A backup file is one encrypted file with all your records and pictures; with it and your password you can get everything back. Your browser normally puts it in the Downloads folder — move a copy somewhere off this device.

NO PASSWORD RESET
You create your password or long PIN. Finance Commander and Seek Stars LLC cannot reset or recover it. If you forget it, we cannot unlock your encrypted records. Choose something you can remember and keep a secure copy somewhere you can access if this device is lost or damaged.
A longer password is safer. If you prefer numbers, use a long PIN; avoid birthdays and simple sequences.
⚠️ Switching keys only changes which backup vault this device points to — it won't touch data already on this device. But if you then restore a backup, that restore replaces this device's local data completely. Back up anything on this device first if you need to keep it.
Keep this private. You need it to access Finance Commander on another device or browser.
Profiles & Backup
Appearance
Mobile uses larger buttons, bigger touch targets, and a bottom navigation bar. Both styles support Light/Dark/System via the theme button in the header.
Profiles
A profile is a named set of accounts, bills and everyday financial records in Finance Commander. For example, you might use a Personal profile and a separate profile for a business.
Choose Create to start a new, empty profile; Finance Commander switches to it right away. Choose Load beside an existing profile to work with it. The profile in use is marked Active. Creating a profile does not move or copy your existing records.
More about profiles
All profiles share the same Finance Commander sign-in and, if you use Online Backup, the same online account. They are not separate private accounts or a corporate group. Some tools, including Shopping, are shared across profiles.
If you only need to show which business an expense belongs to, add your businesses under Spreadsheets and assign your entries to them. One profile can hold several businesses, so you may not need another profile.

Online Backup & Sync
Server serviceLocal only
Use Finance Commander on this device for free. The optional 30-day server trial lets you back up and sync your records and pictures between your phone, computer and tablet using the same account. After the trial, server backup and sync stop, but you can keep using the program and saving on this device.
Backup
Save Recovery File makes one encrypted file with all your records and the pictures stored on this device (receipts, deposits, inventory). With that file and your password you can restore everything on a new device, without a server. Audio recordings are not included.
Advanced Recovery Options
Restore
A recovery file (.fcbackup) holds your records and pictures. It is checked completely, a safety copy of this device's records is kept, and then it is merged in; nothing here is cleared. An older .enc.json backup holds records only.
Receipt photos load automatically as you open each one. On a new device, you can pull all of them down at once instead:
Copies Kept on This Device
Made automatically while you work, and by Backup Now. Only what changed is stored again. They help after a mistake on this device. They are lost if this device is lost or its browser data is cleared, so save one as a recovery file and keep it somewhere else.
Pre-Conflict Safety Copy
Before overwriting data during conflict resolution, Finance Commander saves a complete local copy of your current device state here. Use this if a conflict resolution replaced data you wanted to keep.

No pre-conflict safety copy is available on this device.
Account access file
This file identifies your account and lets a new device send backups. It does not contain your financial records or your password. Keep it private and save it somewhere you can access from another device.
This installation is used on this device only. It has access details too, but they alone do not create an online account or a backup. To move your records to another device, save a backup file (above) and restore it there.
This updates this device's permission to back up the same account. It does not replace your records.
Your User Key
The key that links this device to your backup vault — you'll need it to link another device (like a phone).
Security
Keep this device signed in.
When enabled (default), Finance Commander stays unlocked across app restarts, browser closings, and device reboots — no password prompt on a trusted device.
Disable this on shared or public computers.
The Lock button always applies immediately and clears the saved session.

To continue here, choose "Switch to this device". This device checks the server for newer records before it is ready to sync.
You can use the same account on more than one device. With safe device switching, only one device at a time saves to the online backup. This helps prevent the devices from saving competing changes. Unsent changes stay on the device where you made them. If both devices have changes, Finance Commander may ask you what to keep. Viewing this account here without switching is not available in this version.

This account receives your 10% income reserve. It should be separate from your spending accounts. Your Savings Reserve is money you are setting aside for your future — it may be held in a bank account, a cash envelope, or another appropriate place.
Default is 10%. Each income deposit will require this percentage to be transferred to your Reserve Account.

Finance Commander has moved
The new address is .
New to Finance Commander? Start at the new address. If this browser already holds your records, sign in here first and save a backup file to take them along.
Track your accounts, plan your bills, and record everyday spending. Finance Commander is free to use on this device, and a new setup includes 30 days of server backup and sync between your devices.
Not sure which file you have? Choose either way: Finance Commander looks inside the file and takes you to the right place.
More options
Start using Finance Commander
Use Finance Commander for free on this device. Your new setup also includes 30 days of server backup and sync, so you can keep an encrypted online copy and use the same account on your phone, tablet or computer.
No credit card is needed, and nothing is charged automatically. After the trial you can keep using the program and saving records on this device for free. Server backup and sync stop when the trial ends; paid server service is not available yet.
Start Using the Program asks you to create your password first, then asks the server to set up the included trial (this needs an internet connection). While Online Backup & Sync is on, your records and pictures are encrypted on this device and then sent to the server. You can turn it off in Profiles & Backup; that does not pause or extend the 30 days.
This setup stays on this device: Finance Commander is free to use here, and the server is not contacted now. You can start the 30-day server trial later under Profiles & Backup.
Keep a backupYour records are kept in this browser on this device. They can be lost if the browser's saved data is removed or the device is lost, so save a complete backup file somewhere else.
More information
Private or incognito browsing, clearing site data, or changing devices can remove access to the copy in this browser. An online copy helps only after server setup and the first online backup have actually completed; Finance Commander tells you when they have.
30-day server trial
Use Finance Commander on this device for free. The optional 30-day server trial lets you back up and sync your records and pictures between your phone, computer and tablet using the same account. After the trial, server backup and sync stop, but you can keep using the program and saving on this device.
Your password, your records and your pictures on this device stay exactly as they are. The same installation is registered; nothing is cleared.
The 30 days begin when the server confirms the trial. Turning Online Backup & Sync off does not pause them.
To open the account on another device you need its Account access file and your password. You are offered that file next; keep it somewhere safe.
A confirmed trial means the server account is ready. Your records are online only after the first online backup has completed; Finance Commander shows when it has.
Syncing happens while Finance Commander is open, and can take a few minutes for many pictures.
Paid server service is not available yet.

A backup file is one encrypted file with all your records and pictures. Keep it somewhere other than this

device or browser is lost. You can also do this later under Profiles & Backup.
Your local records are stored in this browser on this device. Private/incognito browsing, clearing site data, or changing devices can remove access to that local copy. Keep a backup file. An online account helps only when server setup and the backup have actually completed.
Account access file — what it is
This file identifies your account and lets a new device send backups. It does not contain your financial records or your password. Keep it private and save it somewhere you can access from another device.
This installation is used on this device only. It has access details too, but they alone do not create an online account or a backup. They matter if you start the server trial later.

This is included in your account access file. It allows this device to send backups. Without it your records can still be opened here, but this device may not be able to send new backups.
The User Key says which account is yours; it does not open it by itself. Your records can be read only with your password.
The password you use on your other device. It is not in the file and it is not sent to the server.
Save your Account access file
This file identifies your account and lets a new device send backups. It does not contain your financial records or your password. Keep it private and save it somewhere you can access from another device.
KEEP THESE TWO THINGS SAFE
Your password or long PIN — you create it. It is not included in the account access file, and we cannot reset it.
Your account access file — we provide it to help you open this same server account on another device. Save a copy somewhere you can reach without this device, such as a secure cloud folder or email to yourself. Treat it as private.
Both are needed to reconnect this way. Keep your password or PIN separate from your access file. Saving them does not itself mean the server has a complete copy of your records and pictures.
A full backup file is different: it contains your encrypted records and pictures; your account access file does not. With a usable full backup and its password or PIN, you can restore even without the account access file. Keep a full backup off this device too. On an installation used on this device only, the account access file alone does not create an online account or a backup.
The Account access file was handed to the app you chose.
Sharing hands the file off to another app — it does not guarantee it was delivered or saved.
Check that the message sent and the file arrived before you continue.
Sharing isn't available here. Copy the text below and paste it into a safe place — a password manager, email to yourself, or cloud notes app.
A download of the Account access file was started. Look for it in your Downloads folder, then keep a copy somewhere you can reach from another device.
Help me find my Account access file
Where might you have saved your Account access file? (Earlier versions called it the recovery file.)
Cloud storage (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox)
Without your Account access file (or a backup file), getting your data onto another device may not be possible.
Finance Commander does not have a "Forgot Password" function. Your encryption key is never sent to our servers, so we cannot reset it.
If you still have access on your original device, sign in there and go to Profiles & Backup → Save or share Account access file to create a new copy.
Otherwise, contact support@seekstars.com — we can advise on your options, though we cannot decrypt your data.
Recover or Move to Another Device
Select your Finance Commander Account access file (.txt; earlier versions called it the recovery file).

Backup permission key (Write Token):—
Enter the Finance Commander password you used on your original device.
Ready to restore your data from the server.
Finance Commander will download your most recent server backup and restore it on this device.
This device must not already have Finance Commander data. Your existing account on other devices is not affected.
❌
Important: Save Your Recovery File
Finance Commander does not have a "Forgot Password" function. If you forget your password, your encrypted data cannot be recovered — not by you, not by us.
Your User Key and Write Token are credentials required to access your server vault. If you lose them and clear your browser storage, your vault cannot be claimed back by anyone.
A recovery file has been downloaded (or will download now). Keep it somewhere safe — a password manager, printed copy, or offline backup.
What to keep safe:
• Your Finance Commander password
• Your User Key (from recovery file)
• Your Write Token (from recovery file)
Without all three, your data cannot be fully restored on a new device.

How support messages are kept
Support keeps conversations so we can handle and follow up on your requests. Marking a conversation resolved does not erase it. You can ask for your conversations to be removed by writing to support.
Messages are not end-to-end encrypted and not anonymous: they are linked to your account and can be read by Seek Stars LLC support. They are not part of your backups, exports or Account access file, and support cannot see your financial records.
Replies arrive when Finance Commander checks with the server: when you open Contact & Support or press Refresh, and — while Online Backup is on — with its regular account check. There are no push notifications or emails. Opening Contact & Support does not turn Online Backup on and sends none of your records.
Add an account. Add the account your money comes from. Give it a nickname such as Household Checking or Emergency Savings. You do not need to enter a bank account number. Adding an account only keeps track of it; nothing is connected to your bank.
Add a bill or record a purchase. A bill is a payment you plan for. A purchase (an expense) is something you already bought.
Check your backup. Save a backup file and keep a copy off this device.
Bills and expenses — what is the difference?
Bills are payments you plan for, commonly repeated payments such as rent, electricity or subscriptions. Other expenses are individual purchases such as groceries, fuel or a meal.
When you mark an ordinary bill as paid, Finance Commander records its linked expense automatically. Do not enter that payment again as a separate expense. Credit-card and loan payments have separate handling to avoid counting purchases twice.
A bill can repeat (weekly, every two weeks, monthly or yearly) or be one-time. A bill that is entered but not marked paid is scheduled: it appears in your forecast and calendar and does not change a balance. When you mark it paid, the payment is recorded against the account you chose for it.
The account on a bill is the account the money comes from. For a credit-card or loan payment that is your bank account, not the card or the loan itself.
Accounts and nicknames
Use a nickname you will recognise — Household Checking, Emergency Savings, Main Credit Card. Never enter a real account number, card number or online-banking sign-in.
The kinds of account are Bank Account, Cash, Credit Card, Loan and Money Someone Owes Me. A savings account is a Bank Account with a nickname that says so.
"Savings Reserve" is something different: a budgeting role you may give to one of your accounts later, under Accounts. Nothing is designated for you, and Cash is not treated as savings by itself.
Where your records are kept
Your local records are stored in this browser on this device. Private/incognito browsing, clearing site data, or changing devices can remove access to that local copy. Keep a backup file. An online account helps only when server setup and the backup have actually completed.
Use on this device is free and needs no account. The 30-day server trial adds server backup and sync between your devices for 30 days. Syncing happens while Finance Commander is open; it does not run while the program is closed.
Finance Commander also keeps automatic backups inside this browser. They help after a mistake, but they are part of the same browser storage: if the site data is cleared they go with it. Only a backup file you saved somewhere else, or a completed online backup, is outside it.
Backup file or Account access file?
A backup file holds your records and pictures, encrypted with your password. With it and the password you can restore everything on any device, without the internet and after a server trial has ended. Save one under Profiles & Backup, or from the getting-started list.
The Account access file is a small text file. This file identifies your account and lets a new device send backups. It does not contain your financial records or your password. Keep it private and save it somewhere you can access from another device. Download it under Profiles & Backup.
On an installation that is used on this device only, the Account access file alone does not create an online account or a backup.
KEEP THESE TWO THINGS SAFE (server account)
Your password or long PIN — you create it. It is not included in the account access file, and we cannot reset it.
Your account access file — we provide it to help you open this same server account on another device. Save a copy somewhere you can reach without this device, such as a secure cloud folder or email to yourself. Treat it as private.
Both are needed to reconnect this way. Keep your password or PIN separate from your access file. Saving them does not itself mean the server has a complete copy of your records and pictures.
A full backup file contains your encrypted records and pictures; your account access file does not. With a usable full backup and its password or PIN, you can restore even without the account access file. Keep a full backup off this device too.
If this device is lost, another usable copy and the required credentials may let you recover. If you lose every usable copy or the password needed to unlock it, we cannot recover your records for you.
Using another device, or coming back
With a server account: on the other device choose Open my account from server backup, choose your Account access file and enter your password. This works when the online backup has completed; Profiles & Backup shows whether it has.
Without a server account: save a backup file here, carry it to the other device, and choose Restore a saved backup file there. A backup file made by a current version also carries the account it belongs to; after a restore, server backup stays off on that device until you turn it on under Profiles & Backup.
Your phone and your computer, one account: use Finance Commander on your phone and computer with the same account. When asked, switch to the device you want to use next. Let changes finish syncing before leaving a device whenever possible.
Safe device switching (with a server account): you can use this account on more than one device. It helps prevent the devices from saving competing changes to your online backup: only one device at a time saves to it. When another device is active, this one asks you to choose "Switch to this device"; it then checks the server for newer records before it syncs. Unsent changes stay on the device where you made them, and if both devices have changes you may be asked what to keep. Viewing the account on a device without switching to it is not available in this version.
A private or incognito window forgets everything when its windows are closed. Before you close one, make sure a backup file is saved or the online backup has completed, and that you have your Account access file.
When the server trial ends
The trial lasts 30 days from the moment the server confirms it. When it ends, server backup and sync stop. Nothing is deleted: your records, pictures, password, backups on this device and backup files keep working, and you can keep using Finance Commander on this device.
The trial ending does not delete the online copy either, but online copies are not promised to be kept indefinitely. The Terms of Service (section 9B) describe a planned rule: a server account with no successful server sign-in or online backup for twelve months would be removed. That rule is not in effect, and no account is removed for inactivity today.
While a trial is running, the days that remain are shown under Profiles & Backup and, each time you end a session, on the locked screen. They are counted from the end date the server issued. Signing in again, uploading, or opening the account on another device does not start the 30 days again.
To use the same account on another device, use the same Account access file and the same password there. Finance Commander backs up and syncs while it is open; it does not sync while it is closed.
Paid server service is not available yet, and nothing in Finance Commander takes a payment.
Contact & Support
Write to Seek Stars LLC support from inside Finance Commander: the speech-bubble button at the top (in Accessible Vision Mode: Menu → Contact & Support). Your message is linked to your server account so we can help, and replies appear there. A small number on the button shows conversations with a new reply.
Replies arrive when Finance Commander checks with the server — when you open Contact & Support or press Refresh, and, while Online Backup is on, with its regular account check. There are no push notifications or emails, and nothing arrives while the program is closed or offline.
Without a server account, or if you cannot unlock the program, write to seekstarsllc@gmail.com. Never send your password, your Account access file or private financial details.
